Key Points
Hello Folks,
It was a little tough out there this past weekend. The wind was just brutal on our lakes, and it kept a lot of folks off the water. You had to get out of the wind just so you could fish. If you did get on the water, I hope you caught some.
The water temperature is slowly goin’ down, and with all this rain we’ve been gettin’, the water levels are risin’, as well. That’s a great thing! In some areas of the St. Johns River up around Astor, there’s been some floodin’, so you need to be careful if you’re fishin’ up in that area.
Folks’re still catchin’ some specks up in Lake Woodruff on jigs and jigs tipped with a minner. Some bass are bein’ caught up around that same area on shiners, as well. If you decide to go bass fishin’ up there, Highland Fish Camp has shiners in stock.
Folks’re catchin’ some nice bass in Lake Fairview durin’ the Wednesday Night Tournament.
The Butler Chain is doin’ real good for bass, right now. This is a great time of the year to catch numbers of bass over there. As the water temperatures start comin’ down, the bass will be schoolin’ on the bait fish. Look for the divin’ birds throughout the chain. And always keep a lipless crankbait tied on to one of your rods just in case they start schoolin’ up around your boat. If the wind dies down this week, the fishin’ should pick up pretty good.
The fishin’ has been gettin’ better over on the Harris Chain. Some nice bass are bein’ caught at first light. Try fishin’ a topwater bait along the shoreline grass at first light. Then move out to the deeper water and fish the submerged hydrilla grass with a slow sinkin’ Senko type bait.
The bass fishin’ is pickin’ up out at Johns Lake in Clermont. The Wednesday Night Shootout last week was a good event. Congrats to Justin Evans and Conner Lietz on their win. They brought three bass to the scales that weighed in at 11.350 pounds. They also caught the biggest bass that night that weighed in at 7.65 pounds.
You might want to try West Lake Toho to see if you can catch some bass on shiners. Most of the guides are takin’ folks on a four-hour trip, and they’re catchin’ 15 to 30 bass per trip. Once this wind settles down some, the fishin’ is bound to get better and better each week.
Down in the Kissimmee Chain, the specks are startin’ to bite again. Some folks are driftin’ with minners in the open water, and they’re startin’ to catch specks along the shoreline grass and pads.
Folks are also catchin’ some nice bass on shiners at the Headwaters Lake down in Palm Bay.
So, wherever you are, get you a bucket of minners and… go catch some fish! It’s fun, it’s educational, it puts you in a good mood… usually. And the sun will increase your vitamin D, so it’s healthful! To top it off, you can make some lifelong friends when you’re out there among other folks fishin’.
Well, that’s it for this week. I hope to see you on the water real soon.
Tip of the week: Happy Halloween. Don’t eat too much candy!
SAVE A FEW AND GOOD LUCK!
