Our prayers for rain were answered!

Jim Keck

Key Points

Hello Folks,

Well, we prayed for rain, and – boy, oh boy – did we ever get our prayers answered! I believe it’s about time to slow down some of our prayers in the rain category for a while! Thanks again to everyone who prayed.

We’re gettin’ a new moon on Monday, November 9th, so that should help get those ole bass to bitin’ again… everywhere!

After we get done with all this rain, we’ve got some cooler temperatures headed our way. Pretty soon, it’s gonna be down in the 60s with highs in the 80s. We should see the speck fishin’ get real good.

Folks… I’ve been fishin’ for a long time, but just this past week, we finally have a bass fisherman who’s a millionaire… because he went fishin’! Congrats to Matt Robertson who won the inaugural World Bass Enterprises championship, The Champions, on Ole Hickory Lake in Tennessee. There were 60 anglers who fished for three days, and Matt came out on top! All the big names in bass fishin’ were there for the tournament, but Matt ended up winnin’ $1,250,000! Yep, that’s right! That’s one million two hundred and fifty thousand dollars! Tell that to your better half who might think you pay a little more attention to fishin’ than she might think is warranted! It’s kinda hard to wrap your head around somethin’ like this in today’s bass fishin’ tournaments. You can go online and see all the anglers who fished, and how they finished in the standings.

We’ve had so much rain that the St. Johns River is out of its banks, and it’s floodin’ in a lot of areas up and down the river. I would suggest that we all stay off the SJR for a while and give it a chance to recede before tryin’ to navigate the river again.

Folks are catchin’ some specks just trollin’ jigs tipped with a minner in Lake Woodruff up on the St. Johns west of Daytona Beach. I don’t know how all this rain is goin’ to affect the fishin’, so before you drive all the way up there with your rig in tow, you might wanta check with the fish camps in that area.

The bass fishin’ over on the Harris Chain is startin’ to pick up with all the rain we’ve been gettin’, too. And, the rain has cooled the water temperature down in the lakes, and that’s got the fish to bitin’ a little better.

And, the bass are also bitin’ down on West Lake Toho. Most folks are fishin’ with shiners, and they’re catchin’ some bass along the edges of the hydrilla grass beds. The lake has a lotta hydrilla right now, so you’ll have to do some searchin’ to find the edge of the hydrilla.

The specks are still bitin’ down there in Lake Kissimmee, with most folks driftin’ open water with minners. And, a few folks are catchin’ some pretty nice  specks on jigs tipped with a minner.

In spite of all this rain, the bass are bitin’ like crazy down at the Headwaters Lake. The water temperature is down to 73 degrees, and that’s got’em to feedin’ on shiners and topwater baits early in the mornin’. Some folks are even catchin’ some big’uns! See? It pays off to get up early and get goin’!

Before I get outta here, next Wednesday is Veterans Day! And I just want to thank all you Veterans, men and women, who served our country to keep us safe, and their families! There’s no one who could have done any better!

Tip of the week: Cooler Temperatures!

SAVE A FEW AND GOOD LUCK!
