Key Points
Hello Folks,
I’ve mentioned it a few times, but we are now officially into fall. I hope you are enjoyin’ this wonderful weather… the crisp mornin’ temperatures and the cooler days. I hope you are lovin’ it as much as I am. Hallelujah! Thanks go to The Good Lord!
The full moon we had over the weekend was great and beautiful, and that should help kick off some good fishin’ real soon.
The fishin’ is still about the same. Folks are gettin’ on the water early, and they’re catchin’ plenty of panfish, from redears to shellcrackers and even a few specks.
The bass fishin’ is still doin’ real good on the Butler Chain. I’m gettin’ some good reports that anglers are catchin’ 20 to 30 bass per trip over there. You can find’em in either shallow or deeper parts of the lake. The bass are startin’ to school up at the chain, so keep your eyes peeled for bass feedin’ on bait fish durin’ the day. Look for the birds to be divin’ on the bait fish, and you should be able to find some bass in those areas.
There were 17 boats that fished the Wednesday Night Shootout over at Johns Lake. Congrats to Zack Fadden and Liam Quintana on their win. They had three bass that hit the scales at 9.80 pounds. They also had Big Bass for the night that weighed in at 6.60 pounds. It’s always nice to have a big kicker bass to bring home the win.
The Florida Bass National High School Tournament was held over the weekend on the Harris Chain of Lakes. The weather this past weekend, with the cool front and the full moon, made the Harris Chain a little bit stingy. Congrats to the team of Fisher Holloway and Brycen Moriarty on their big win. They brought five bass to the scales that weighed in at 21.88 pounds, and they anchored their bag with a Big Bass that hit the scales at 6.08 pounds. You might say that’s pretty good and it is, but to show you how tough it was, Rowe Zeigler and Ladd Paramo finished in second place with 8.34 pounds. The weights went down from there. That shows you just how tough it was this past weekend.
West Lake Toho is still producin’ some nice bass. Anglers are catchin’ a few double digit bass on live shiners. Folks are fishin’ along the edges of the hydrilla. If you want to catch some bass on artificials, try gettin’ on the water real early – at first light – and catchin’em on topwater baits. Once the sun gets up, move on to deeper water and fish the submerged hydrilla beds with plastic worms or jerk baits.
Lake Kissimmee down near Lake Wales is still producin’ some nice stringers of panfish around the pads. There are five islands in that lake. If you want to see wildlife, you’ll get your fill down there! Eagles, white tailed deer, sandhill cranes, bobcats, they’re all there. And gators, too, of course!
The specks have already started to bite in the Headwaters. One angler was out scoutin’ around for some specks; he caught 29 specks… and he kept 14 of ’em! The bass are still bitin’ down there, as well. Folks are catchin’em on topwater baits, Carolina-rigged Senkos, and plastic worms. A good color has been Junebug-red Bass Assassin RSB Worm.
Well, I hope to see you on the water real soon.
And, I’ll see ya next week.
Tip of the week: Enjoy this great weather.
SAVE A FEW AND… GOOD LUCK!
