Hello Folks,
I believe everyone is lovin’ this great weather we’re havin’. I know I am! It’s been a lonnng summer, and I’ve been waitin’ and anticipatin’ for a good while… but now it’s finally here, and it’s just grrreat!
The bass fishin’ and the speck fishin’ should pick back up this weekend… that’s if the weather doesn’t get too bad. We have a full moon this comin’ Monday, October the 26th, and usually three days before the full moon and three days after are good times to catch fish! If you’ve been waitin’ to go fishin’, this weekend just might be a good time to get out there and catch’em!
The bass are eatin’ shiners, and that’s a terrific way to catch a big ole bass durin’ this time of the year. But the bass fishin’ this past weekend was a little rough for most of the anglers. We had a lotta rain, and the wind was brisk, so that made the bass fishin’ tough for everybody who decided to brave the elements to go fishin’!
Hopefully, this cooler weather will kick off the speckled perch season. Folks are already catchin’em in our area. They’re catchin’ some specks north of us in Lake Woodruff, which is 25 miles west of Daytona Beach; down south in Lake Kissimmee; and the Headwaters, a little further south down in Fellsmere.
The folks who are catchin’ specks in Lake Woodruff are driftin’ the open water with bright-colored jigs. Get you a bucket of minners and drift the open water, and you’ll find’em. The jigs are workin’ real good, but if you haven’t gotten a bite yet, try puttin’ a minner on your jig! That just might get you the bite, you’ve been lookin’ for!
Over on the Harris Chain, the Citrus Bass Club fished over the weekend, and it only took 13.0 pounds to win, with five bass. Congrats to the husband and wife team of Maverick and Christelle Molina on their win. They also caught the biggest bass of the day that weighed in at 3 pounds-12 ounces. So, as you can see, this past weekend was pretty durned tough.
The bass fishin’ down on the Headwaters Lake is good… if you’re fishin with some shiners. Most folks are catchin’ lots of bass and an occasional big bass on shiners. You can catch’em on artificials also, such as a noisy topwater bait, chatter-baits, or a swim-jig.
The X-treme Bass Series held its team championship on Lake Okeechobee last weekend. This was the Falcon Boats Division Series Championship. Congrats to Derek Daniels and Michael Johnson on their win. This was a two-day event held on the north end of Lake Okeechobee. The lake was a little stingy for most of the 125 teams that qualified for the championship. The “Big O” showed out for Derek and Michael, and they’re very happy with their win. Congrats to all the teams that made it to the championship.
Let’s be sure to keep the family of Steven Hamilton in our thoughts and prayers. Steven was fishin’ for bass at the Dr. Bradford Memorial Park along Lake Apopka in Winter Garden when he was attacked and killed by a 12-foot alligator that pulled him into the water. Trappers with the FWC have killed that gator. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and prayers for the Hamilton family.
Tip of the week: Go fishin’! And when you do, keep yourself safe!
SAVE A FEW, AND GOOD LUCK!
