Wekiva’s boys bowling team missed the semifinals at the Class 1A District 7 tournament Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Boardwalk Bowl. But junior William Warren delivered a strong finish that put him in contention for an individual state berth.

The Mustangs finished the three-game qualifying round with a team score of 2,441, leaving them outside the top four teams that advanced to the semifinal round.

Wekiva opened with a team score of 761 in the first game. Warren led the Mustangs with a 181, while Nathan Karcher followed closely with a 176.

Karcher finished the second game with three consecutive strikes in the 10th frame, earning a score of 182. Blake McAuliffe also contributed with spare conversions in frames six through nine.

Warren started slowly in the second game before finding his rhythm late. He rolled three consecutive strikes across frames eight, nine and 10, while adding two more strikes in his final two deliveries of the 10th frame. The strong finish gave him a 215 for the game.

Warren saved his best performance for the third game. He rolled repeated strikes on his way to a 247, finishing qualifying with a 643 series.

Under the tournament format, the top two individual bowlers whose teams did not qualify for state also advanced.

However, after the semifinal rounds involving Lyman, Winter Park and Lake Mary, Warren missed the state tournament by one spot.

On the girls side, junior Cindy Caraballo represented Wekiva and recorded a total score of 276. Coaches and players praised her solo performance alongside teams with full rosters.
