This is best time of year to get on the water

Hello Folks,

I mentioned it last week and I’ll mention it again: It sure is nice to live in Florida and enjoy this beautiful weather we are havin’. This is the best time of the year to get on the water with the family and enjoy some outdoor fun and go fishin’.

Before I forget, I want to remind everyone that the 10th season of TrophyCatch program is in full swing. There are some extra special bass swimmin’ in the Sunshine State. There are some bass swimmin’ in our lakes that could be worth thousands of dollars in prizes. These bass will be tagged with a special pink tag and located in 10 different lakes throughout the state. Please go to the TrophyCatch website 10-Tag webpage to stay updated on hints to find these bodies of water where these tagged bass are located. Good luck to everyone and I hope someone from Apopka catches one of these tagged bass.

I mentioned last week that the specks are movin’ to deeper water. Well, the specks are gettin’ in their summer pattern with these warm days we have been havin’. So, if you want to catch some specks, start movin’ to the deep holes and the dropoffs and you should find ’em. You will have to do some driftin’ and you will have to cover a lot of water to find ’em. Give yourself some time to locate ’em, and have fun catchin ’em.

The bass fishin’ is doin’ really good in most of the lakes in our area. I do know that the Butler Chain is on fire right now. Folks are catchin’ 20 to 30 bass per trip. My neighbor John and his nephew Chet are havin’ some great days on the chain. They are catchin’ their bass on plastic worms, speed-worms, and slow-sinkin Senko-type baits. We have a new moon comin’ today, Friday April 1, so the fishin’ should be really good and I hope you get a chance to go fishin’.

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that the folks in his area are catchin’ a few specks in Lake Monroe and Lake Jesup. Kyle reports that the specks are movin’ to deeper water and you will do best driftin’ over those deep areas in the lake. Kyle also reports that the bass fishin’ is really doin good in most of the lakes and major chains in our area. West Lake Toho has been decent this past week.

The Harris Chain has been really good this week Kyle reports. He has a tournament comin’ up on the Harris Chain and he reports that the bass are bitin’ really good in just about all of the lakes in the chain. Folks are catchin’ their bass on a variety of baits. You can catch ’em on top-water early in the mornin’ and lipless crank-baits durin’ the day. Some folks are catchin’ ’em on plastic worms, spinner-baits, and chatter-baits. The same goes for John’s Lake on the west side of Orlando.

So, all in all, the fishin’ isn’t too bad and now is a good time to get on the water and catch some fish. I hope you have a great week and I’ll see ya next week.

Tip of the week: Bass are bitin’.

Save a few and good luck!
