Key Points

Wekiva couldn’t find an answer on offense Friday night as the Mustangs fell to South Lake, 34-0, in Groveland.

Wekiva (2-4) started the game with the ball but was unable to generate much offensively, allowing the South Lake Eagles (1-4) to quickly take control.

South Lake opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead before adding two more scores in the second quarter.

Senior quarterback Tre Kelly led the Eagles’ offense with his arm and his legs. Kelly connected on a long touchdown pass in the second quarter before adding a rushing touchdown of his own with a minute left in the half. He finished with more than 100 yards passing and more than 100 yards rushing while accounting for three touchdowns.

The Mustangs continued to struggle to move the ball as South Lake carried its momentum into the second half.

Senior running back Sam Wood added to the Eagles’ lead at the beginning of the third quarter with a rushing touchdown. Wood finished with 126 rushing yards and 2two touchdowns as South Lake continued to control the game on the ground.

Wekiva also turned the ball over multiple times throughout the game, limiting its opportunities to answer South Lake’s offensive production.

The Eagles added another rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to complete the 34-0 shutout.

Wekiva will look to end its losing skid Friday night when the Mustangs return home to face the University Cougars (4-1).
