Speck fishin’ has slowed lately

Hello Folks,

I hope you are havin’ a great week. We are havin’ some great weather and folks are gettin’ on the water and catchin’ some fish. The speck fishin’ has slowed down some the past couple of weeks.

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that the folks in his area have been catchin’ a few specks in Lake Monroe and Lake Jesup. The speck fishin’ has slowed down a lot this past week, but we have some cooler weather comin’ in this weekend and that may get ’em to start bitin’ again. We have a full moon next week, so with the cooler weather and full moon next weekend should also be a good weekend to go fishin’.

The bass fishin’ on the Harris Chain is still producin’ some nice stringers of bass. Major League Fishing held its rescheduled January tournament March 5 on the Harris Chain. They had two anglers tie for first place. Congrats to Devin van Dalen and Joey Bloom who both weighed in five bass for a total of 22 lbs., 7oz. The biggest bass of the tournament was caught by Ben McCann and weighed 8 lbs., 12 oz. Ben finished in third place of the tournament. It’s safe to say the bass are still bitin’ real good on the Harris Chain.

This week, my fishin’ partner Rick Mullins is hostin’ his brothers-in-law from Kentucky. Greg Fugate and Carl McIntosh have been fishin’ with Rick for the past few days. They fished the first day in Lake Dora and caught 10 bass up to 6 lbs. 8oz. each. Rick caught the biggest bass of the day. They fished Lake Harris on Sunday and caught 10 lbs. Rick caught two bass that weighed 3 lbs. each.

On Monday, they fished the Butler Chain and caught 38 bass. They didn’t catch any big bass that day, but catchin’ 38 bass on one trip is pretty doggone good.
This is Carl’s first trip to fish for bass for a week. He is really havin’ a good time and out of those 38 bass, he caught 10 of those bass on Butler. Of course, Greg has been comin’ to Florida for the past 10 years and he knows how to catch ’em. He’s been showin’ ’em how to get it done. They were on John’s Lake earlier this week and it wasn’t the greatest.

The fishin’ on the Kissimmee Chain has been spotty at best. One day it’s on and the next day it will be off just a little. Kyle has been gettin’ the same reports on Kissimmee. The Maitland Chain bass fishin’ has been pretty good. Folks are catchin’ some decent bass on shiners and plastic worms.

Well, that’s it for this week. I’ll see ya next week.

Tip of week: Harris Chain for bass.

Save a few and good luck!
