Panfish and bass are bitin’ in our area lakes and rivers

Hello Folks,

I hope you are havin’ a great week, and you enjoyin’ our summer days. The fishin’ is still doin’ good in most of the chains in our area. Folks are still catchin’ some bluegills and shellcrackers in the Harris Chain and the Kissimmee Chain.

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that folks are catchin’ plenty of bluegills and shellcrackers in Lake Monroe, Lake Jesup, and the St. Johns River. Most folks are catchin’ ‘em on crickets and red worms. You will find bluegills and shellcrackers around the lily pads, laydowns, and shaded areas of the lakes.

Mark at Big Toho Bait and Tackle reports folks are catchin’ lots of bluegills and shellcrackers in West Lake Toho off the shellbeds out from Red’s Fish Camp. Get you some crickets and some red worms and go catch some panfish. We had a full moon this week and the panfishin’ should be really good goin’ into the weekend.

Kyle also reports that the bass fishin’ has been very good on the Harris Chain for the past few days. Major League Fishing is holdin’ a tournament this week on the Harris Chain and the fishin’ has really been good. The final 10 anglers are fishin’ the final day on Wednesday and it will be concluded by press time on Wednesday.

The bass have been bitin’ all week by flippin’ the Kissimmee grass, crank-baits and flippin’ the shaded docks on Lake Harris. Some of the anglers have done well on Lake Griffin on chatter-baits as well. One of the anglers, Brett Hite, caught more than 100 pounds of bass in two days on Lake Griffin. The bass in Lake Griffin will fire, but you need some wind to get ’em to bite. Unfortunately, on the final day, the wind isn’t supposed to be blowin’ as hard, so the fishin’ might be a little slow on Lake Griffin. Hey, you never know what’s gonna happen when you are bass fishin’ in Florida. The fish could turn on and you could catch enough bass to win the tournament.

Kyle also reports some good bass fishin’ in the Butler Chain for the past couple of weeks. Folks are catchin’ some bass on a variety of baits in the Butler Chain. You can catch ’em on top-water early in the mornin’ and when the sun gets up, move to the deeper water. You will find offshore hydrilla and eel-grass beds throughout the chain. Also look for schoolers comin’ up in the chain and keep a lipless crank-bait tied on one of your rods. Also watch for the birds divin’ on the bait-fish and you should find some bass feedin’ there as well.

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend and also you get a chance to so some fishin’. Let’s all remember this weekend those folks who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. God bless all those who died for our freedoms.

See ya next week.

Tip of the week: bass are bitin’.

Save a few and good luck!
