Full moon helps lead anglers to great fishin’ in area lakes

Hello Folks,

We had another great weekend for fishin’ and folks took advantage of the full moon and the fish bitin’. Lots of folks are still catchin’ some nice stringer of specks in most of the lakes in our area and it won’t be long before the bluegills and shellcrackers go on the beds and they will start bitin’ like crazy and you will have a blast catchin’ ‘em.

Right now, you can catch a mixed bag of panfish and a few specks in most of the lakes in our area. Lake Monroe and lake Harney have been good lakes to fish as of late. Most folks are catchin’ their specks in deeper water as they have moved off the beds in most of the lakes in our area.

You will find some bluegills and shellcrackers startin’ to bed and you can locate ‘em by lookin’ for a slick spot on the lake or you will be able to smell ‘em when they are on the beds. Crickets and red-worms will catch ‘em in most lakes. Some folks like to use Beetle Spins or small little spinners fished over the beds. You can have a lot of fun on an ultra light outfit and small lures, catchin’ some good-sized bluegills.

You can catch a mixed bag of panfish and a few shad in the St. Johns River, on the southern part of the river. Folks are fishin’ along the shoreline cover, includin’ the laydowns, pads, docks, under over-hangin’ trees. The bass fishin’ has been good in the St. Johns as well. If you can find some current flowin’ in the river or over a shell bed, you should be able to find some bass feedin’ on the bait pods in the river. You need to use swim-baits, spinner-baits or noisy top-water lures to attract the bass and get a bite. Once the top-water bite is over, try fishin’ a Carolina-rigged plastic worm around the shell-beds.

The bass fishin’ has been really good in most of the lakes in our area. Folks are catchin’ some nice bass in the Butler Chain and John’s Lake. The bass in John’s Lake have been bitin’ real early in the mornin’ and late in the day just before dark-thirty. The Butler Chain has been really good for catchin’ some nice bass.

My son Tim took his best friend Jimmy and his nephew Brett shiner fishin’ last week on the Butler Chain and they wore ‘em out. They caught and released more than 30 bass up to 9 lbs. My grandson Brett said it was the best day on water that he has ever had bass fishin’. Tim said they went through four dozen shiners and once they ran out of bait, they came home. It was one of those days that all of us would like to have on the water. If you don’t go fishin’, you will never know if you will ever have a day like they had last week.

The Kissimmee Chain has been good for bass, too. Most folks are on the water early in the mornin’ and they are catchin’ that early mornin’ bite around the Kissimmee grass and the stick-ups on toads and plastic frogs. Once the sun gets up, you will need to move to the off-shore hydrilla clumps and the submerged eel-grass beds to catch some bass.

Most folks are fishin’ with plastic worms and Senko-type baits. You can also fish with shiners around those same areas and the shiners should be allow you to catch a big fish as well.

Well, that’s it for this week. I hope you get a chance to go fishin’ and catch some fish. See ya next week.

Tip of the week: shiners.

Save a few and good luck!
