Folks catching 20-25 bass per trip on Butler Chain

Hello Folks,

I hope y’all are fine and hopefully you’re gettin’ a chance to do some fishin’.

The specks are bitin’ but the weather has been keepin’ lots of folks from goin’. Kyle at Bitter’s B&T reports that he has a few folks catchin’ specks in Lake Monroe and Lake Jesup. Most of the specks are bein’ caught on minners while driftin’ open water.

Folks are catchin’ some specks in the St. Johns River on minners. Try fishin’ around the lily pads and the laydowns in the river. The bass fishin’ has been pretty good in the Harris Chain and the Kissimmee Chain. It’s been takin’ over 20 lbs. to win most of the tournaments.

ABA had a tournament on the Harris Chain, and it took over 20 lbs. to win that one. The ABA held a tournament on the Kissimmee on January 7th. It took over 5 bass that hit the scales at 25.59 lbs. to win. Congrats to Russ Osborne and Micah Silverman on their win. Big Bass for the tournament hit the scales at 9.79 lbs.

Kyle also reports that the bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain has been good for numbers. Folks are catchin’ 20 to 25 bass per trip. Most of the bass are bein’ caught on swim-jigs, chatter-baits, and Rat-L-Traps. Kyle’s bass club held their monthly tournament on Lake Apopka this past weekend. It took 12 lbs. to win. The winner had a 9 lb. 2 oz. bass to help his stringer. So that kinda tells you about his catch. But hey, you get a check for winnin’ not for showin’ up. So, no matter how you get it done, just fish.

This Saturday, January 20th, MFL is holdin’ a tournament on the Harris Chain. The Phoenix Bass Fishing League will be launchin’ from Ski Beach at Venetian Gardens on Lake Harris. The ramp is in Leesburg. Weigh-in will start at 3:30 p.m. It’s gonna’ be a little cold for these anglers who fish the tournament. It’s gonna’ start out with a temperature of about 30 to 35 degrees, and then warm up to 54 degrees.

Well, that’s it for this week. I hope the weather doesn’t get too bad, and you get a chance to do some fishin’ over the weekend.

Tip of the week: Cold

Save a few and good luck!
