Hello Folks,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and hopefully you got to go fishin’. It’s really been hot and that has kept a lot of folks from goin’ fishin’, but you can still go fishin’. You just  need to go when it’s a little cooler. Some folks are on the water at 5:30 in the mornin’ before the sun gets up, and they get off the water by 10 or 11a.m. If you can get a little wind, you can stay awhile longer.

My buddy Ken, who lives on the Maitland Chain, reports that the lake was calm most of the weekend. When you don’t have any wind and it’s hot, that can make for a miserable day on the water. Some folks like to fish at night, so there is another option for you if you want to fish when it’s cooler.

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait & Tackle reports that a lot of folks in his area aren’t fishin’ freshwater due to the heat. Most of his customers are fishin’ saltwater because the seas are calm on these hot days. As a note, Red Snapper season is open one day this year, and it happens to be this Friday, the 12th. It’s usually two days. So, there is another option for you if you’re ready to go fishin’.

Only a handful of folks are fishin’ for bluegills and a few shellcrackers. I’ve seen some postings that some folks are catchin’ limits of panfish on Lake Kissimmee. They seem to be fishin’ in the pads with grass-shrimp and they are catchin’ a limit by 9:30 to 10 o’clock. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but that information was posted on facebook. Please don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just passin’ information along to you.

The bass fishin’ isn’t doin’ too bad in most of the lakes in our area. The X-treme Bass Series held a tournament on Johns Lake last weekend. Congrats to team Scott McDonald and Steven Sanders on their first win of the season. They came to the scales with 5 bass that weighed 16.96 pounds. Big bass was caught by the team of Josh Colman and John Rubas. Their big bass weighed in at 4.97 pounds. There were 11 teams that fished the monthly tournament.

The bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain has been pretty good as of late. This past weekend, it was a little crowded with all the boats hangin’ around Bird Island celebratin’ the 4th of July. The same was goin’ on in Lake Dora last weekend, too. Folks were gathered up on the beach/sandbar havin’ a good time.

There were a lot of boats on the Harris Chain over the July 4th weekend. So, I would have to say if the fishin’ is slow. you can always have a party wherever you go on our lakes.

This is just an FYI about the FWC. They will be trackin’ tagged Largemouth Bass in the restored sections of the Kissimmee River. They hope to retrieve tags from any bass that have died or been eaten. FWC says that one of the tagged bass has been eaten by an alligator and is crusin’ around with a tag in his or her belly. They are hopin’ that the gator will expel the tag so they can retrieve it and get the information about the study bass.

Well that’s it for this week. I hope you have a great week and you get to go fishin’, weather permitting.

Tip of the week:  Early or Late.

Save a few and good luck!
