Fishin’ was great last weekend during the time for full moon

Jim-Keck-Goin-FishinHello Folks,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and you got a chance to do some fishin’. We had the full moon and the fishin’, for the most part, was really good.

The panfish were on the beds and folks are catchin’ bluegills and shellcrackers in most of the chains and lakes in our area. All you need is a bucket of worms or some crickets and you are good to go.

You can drift open water lookin’ for beds or try the pads, reeds, laydowns, and docks for some great action.

Lake Monroe, Lake Jesup, and Lake Harney have been producin’ some nice stringers of panfish. Also folks are catchin’ panfish in the St. Johns River along the banks around the pads, and laydowns. We have a three-day weekend comin’ up this weekend so get the family and go fishin’.

The bass fishin’ has been good in our area and folks are catchin’ some nice bass. The Butler Chain has been good for bass early in the mornin’. You will find bass feedin’ along the shoreline on bait-fish. You can catch ‘em on noisy top-water baits and swim-baits. You can also try a Rapapla black and silver or a Devils Horse. Also be ready for some schoolers that may come up and start bustin’ on the bait-fish.

The Kissimmee Chain has been good for bass fishin’ as well. We had some good rains and if you find some runnin’ water, make sure you fish the mouth of the creeks that are feedin’ into the lakes. You can try the mouth of Shingle Creek or in the mouth of the canals in Lake Cypress and Lake Kissimmee. The bass like to hang around those types of areas feedin’ on bait-fish and crawdads. You can catch ‘em on a Carolina-rigged or a Texas-rigged plastic worm or a shallow-runnin’ crank-bait. If they start bustin’ on the bait-fish, try a noisy top-water lure or a lipless crankbait.

The Harris Chain has been good for bass fishin’ as well. Lots of bass are bein’ caught around the pads and isolated clumps of grass on speed-worms. As you work the speed worm through the pads, the bass will bust on ‘em like crazy.

Good colors would be Junebug, black with a blue tail or watermelon with red fleck.

Well, I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend. Please remember the reason we celebrate Memorial Day. See ya next week.

Tip of the week: runnin’ water.

Save a few and good luck!
