Fish before that ole sun gets high in the sky

Hello Folks,

The hot days of summer are here, but the good news is that the fishin’ is still doin’ pretty good.

If you can get a breeze blowin’ durin’ the day, it’s not too bad. I went fishin’ yesterday on the Harris Chain with a real nice young man named Josh Dannels from Ocoee. We had a good day on the water. Well, let’s say Josh had a good day on the water. We caught and released 11 bass up to 2.5 pounds. Josh put it on the old man by catchin’ nine of those bass includin’ the 2.5 pounder. It was great to watch him catch ‘em.

If you want to have a fun day on the water, you need to take a young person fishin’. I would have to say that’s a pretty good day on the Harris Chain, as hot as it’s been. We caught most of our bass on plastic worms. We fished docks, scatter grass, and offshore hydrilla beds. I know that Big Lake Harris is fishin’ good, too. Folks are catchin’ their bass around the offshore hydrilla beds and doin’ real good. You can also catch some bass around the shell beds located throughout the chain. The bass fishin’ on Lake Griffin in the Harris Chain of Lakes is fishin’ good for off-shore bass, too.

The bluegills and shellcrackers have slowed down some, because it’s just been too hot for most anglers to get out there and fish for ‘em. Kyle at Bitter’s B&T reports that folks are still catchin’ some specks under the 417 bridge in Lake Jesup. The good news is the bridge provides some shade for you while you are fishin’ for the specks. Most of the specks are bein’ caught on minners.

Folks are catchin’ plenty of bass in the Butler Chain. Most of the bass are bein’ caught on jigs, plastic worms, and slow sinkin’ Senko-type baits. I haven’t heard of too many big bass bein’ caught on the chain. The bass fishin’ on the Kissimmee Chain is a little slow, but some folks are still catchin’ ‘em, flippin’ the thick hydrilla clumps throughout the chain. Lake Kissimmee and West Lake Toho have been producin’ the best stringers of bass. Kyle got a chance to get on the Harris Chain this week and he was able to catch a few bass. He even caught one around 5 pounds.

All I can say is, you need to get on the water early in the mornin’ and fish before that ole sun gets high in the sky. Make sure you take along plenty of water and Gatorade while you are fishin’. Even with the breeze blowin’ and keepin’ you somewhat cool, you need to stay hydrated.

Well, that’s it for this week. I’ll see ya next week.

Tip of the week: More Rain

Save a few and good luck!
