Chill in the air may make it too cold to go fishin’ over Christmas

Hello Folks,

I hope you are ready for Christmas this comin’ weekend. It might be a little cold to go fishin’, but I’m sure you are gettin’ anxious to get on the water. Hopefully, Santa will bring you a new rod and reel for Christmas.

I found out this week that John’s Lake Ramp is open. The FWC did some repair work on the dock and it’s ready to go. The water is still a little high so make sure you watch out for docks that may still be under water.

I wanted to pass along some information on the TrophyCatch season. The season ended on September 30. Two of the tagged bass were caught durin’ the season and before the deadline. There was one bass that was caught after the deadline in Lake Istokpoga in November. That bass entitled that angler to receive a $100 gift card to Bass Pro Shops. There are still seven bass that weren’t caught durin’ the contest.

The FWC folks told me that any angler who catches one of the seven pink-tagged bass that weren’t caught will still win a $100 gift card from Bass Pro Shop. You need to make sure you are registered with http://TrophyCatch.com and you follow the rules and regulations to win the gift certificate. You can also follow TrophyCatch on the Facebook page.

Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that folks are catchin’ some specks in Lake Monroe, mostly on minners. Also, I talked to Volusia County Parks and Recreation, and Lake Monroe Park on U.S. Highway 17-92 in Debary is now open. Now that the park is open, you will access to the St. Johns River and Lake Monroe. All this is good news just before we get into speckled perch season.

The Central Florida Bass Hunters held its monthly tournament on Lake Istokpoga this past weekend. Congrats to Brandon Pabon and John Brown for their win. They weighed in five bass that hit the scales at 20.57 lbs. They also weighed in a nice 7.72-lbs. big bass. Unfortunately, their bass wasn’t the biggest bass of the tournament. The biggest bass was caught by Jared Krause. Jared’s big bass hit the scales at 7.82 lbs. Jared’s big bass won big bass of the tournament, by 0.10 lbs. Oh, so close.

The R.D. Keene park at the Butler Chain is still closed. I have called the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department and they tell me that they don’t know when the ramp will be open. I’ll keep checkin’ and let you know when they decide to open the ramp. I haven’t heard too much about the fishin’ on the Harris Chain. I’m sure the bass fishin’ is gonna slow down with all this cold weather comin’ to town over the weekend.

Well, that’s it for this week. I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, and remember the reason for the season. See ya next week.

Tip of the week: Merry Christmas!

Save a few and good luck!
