The Apopka and Wekiva bowling teams competed against eight other area schools in the Metro tournament, which featured four games of 10-pin bowling to determine individual and team champions.

The Blue Darters girls finished with 2,717 points, overtaking Windermere with a strong fourth game. Scofield led the way individually, finishing with 721 to win the girls championship by 115 points over the next closest bowler.

For Scofield, the victory represented years of work with Apopka coach Jason Ramos and an emotional milestone in her bowling career.

“It’s really hitting hard because this is something I’ve been doing since I was a sophomore, and Coach Jason has been through it all,” Scofield said. “He’s honestly like a second father, if I’m beinghonest. Seeing him so proud of me makes me really proud of myself.”

Scofield steadily built her performance throughout the tournament. She rolled a 163 in the second game and improved to 172 in the third before delivering her best performance in the final game.

Scofield finished with a 214 in Game 4, stringing together strikes throughout the game and closing with a strike and spare. Her performance helped Apopka finish with a team-high 741 in the final game to secure the Metro title.

The Apopka boys also finished near the top of the standings, earning second place with 3,659 points, behind Windermere and ahead of third-place Wekiva.

The Mustangs finished with 3,402 points, led by Warren, who claimed the boys individual championship with a score of 954. His total put him 40 points ahead of the runner-up.

Warren delivered his strongest performance when it mattered most. After opening with a 202, he improved to 227 in Game 2 and 258 in Game 3 before finishing with a 267 in the final game.

Warren opened Game 4 with six consecutive strikes and continued to find the pocket throughout the game, helping Wekiva close the tournament with a team score of 941.

This wasn’t his only milestone. During last week’s meet, he bowled his first live 300, which is a feat many bowlers dream of accomplishing.

“I’m proud of myself from just starting off the season strong,” Warren said. “You just have to honestly believe in yourself where you’re going. You have to set a goal and follow it through.”

Wekiva was fourth after three games but surged in the final round behind Warren’s performance. Nathan Karcher finished eighth in the field with 776 to help the Mustangs finish third overall among the boys teams.

Apopka’s boys made their own push throughout the afternoon. After opening with an 803, the Blue Darters broke through for a 1,074 in Game 2, led by Joshua Drayton’s 266 and Logan Licavoli’s 256.

Dominick Brown provided another highlight in the final game, rolling a personal-best 247. Brown put together seven consecutive strikes before adding another strike and a spare in his final frame. Oliver Schrock also finished strong with a 211.

Licavoli finished seventh in the individual standings with 790 points, earning a spot on the All-Metro team, which recognizes the top eight bowlers. Brown narrowly missed the boys team, finishing ninth, while Apopka’s Samantha Carlyle also finished just outside the top eight on the girls side.

For Apopka’s girls, the team championship was the culmination of a consistent afternoon. The Darters opened with a 577 in Game 1, then improved to 699 and 700 in the next two games before their decisive 741 finish.

Taylor Blaszak, Jamison McMillen, Eviannah Escalante and Jillian Fessia helped fuel the improvement in the second and third games, while Carlyle and Scofield dominated in the final rounds. McMillen recorded a personal-best 148 in Game 2.

Wekiva’s girls were represented by Cindy Caraballo, who bowled alongside West Orange. Caraballo improved throughout the tournament, posting a 123 in Game 2 before recording a personal-best 146 in Game 3. She finished with 132 in the final game.

With the Metro tournament complete, Apopka and Wekiva will turn their attention to the district tournament Tuesday at Boardwalk Bowl, where both programs will look to carry their momentum into the postseason.
