Hello Folks,

We are havin’ some great weather, it’s still a little cool, and the fishin’ has been good, as well. Lots of folks are still out there catchin’ a few specks, and, with this weekend’s new moon, the fishin’’ should continue to improve.

The bass fishin’ has been pretty good in most of the lakes and chains in our area. My fishin’ buddy Rick Mullins is guiding his brothers-in-law, Carl McIntosh and Greg Fugate from Kentucky, bass fishin’ this week. They started on Saturday last week, and they are havin’ a blast. Greg and Rick started on the Harris Chain on Saturday and they caught about 10 bass. Rick and Greg each boated a 5-pounder along with eight keepers. They caught most of their bass flippin’ the reeds and heavy grass.

On Sunday, Greg and Rick fished Lake Dora and Lake Beauclair, and it was a little slow. They caught a few bass but nothin’ to write home about. Then on Monday, they fished Johns Lake and caught around 15 bass up to 3.5 pounds. Then on Tuesday, Carl joined the team after drivin’ all the way from Kentucky on Monday. They decided to fish the Butler Chain. Rick reported that they caught at least 40 bass. Carl says that he has never had a day on the water like that, ever. They caught bass all day long on Tuesday. The biggest bass was around 4 pounds. Rick reported that they went through some baits. They caught most of their bass on plastic worms and Senko type baits. Green Pumpkin and Junebug were the best colors to use that day.

I’m sure everyone agrees, it sure is fun when folks come to Florida to fish, and you catch fish! I’ve taken people fishin’ and we didn’t catch but one or two bass, and it wasn’t much fun. But. hey. that’s fishin’, right? I will let you know how they do the rest of the week, in next week’s column.

Kyle at Bitter’s B&T reports that folks are catchin’ a few specks in Lake Harney and Lake Jesup. A few are bein’ caught in the St. Johns River, too. Most of the specks are bein’ caught on minners, and a few on jigs tipped with a minner. Kyle also reports that folks are catchin’ some bass on shiners. Folks are stoppin’ by the shop and gettin’ a few shiners and fishin’ in the local lakes before they go home. The results have been pretty good for the most part. The bass fishin’ on West Lake Toho has been pretty good, as well.

Xtreme Bass Series held their monthly tournament there a little over a week ago and there were some nice bass caught. Congrats to Ken Lucas and Danny Lanier on their win. They had 5 bass that hit the scales at 22.06 pounds. They also had the biggest bass with a 9.65 pounder. So, it seems to me, the fishin’ is doin’ pretty good right now and with the new moon this weekend, it should really get good this weekend.

Well that’s it for this week. I hope to see you on the water real soon. See ya next week.

Tip of the week: New Moon

Save a few and good luck!
