Hello Folks,
I hope you are havin’ a good week. I wish I could tell ya that the fishin’ is great and folks are catchin’ plenty of specks and bass. The truth is with the weather bein’ cold and the wind blowin’ like no tomorrow, it’s been kind of rough on the lake and the fishin’ hasn’t been real good. Some folks are goin’ fishin’ but they ain’t loadin’ the boat.
I talked to some folks on the water Saturday and they told me the specks are movin’ into the shallow water to spawn. They were catchin’ a mixed bag of bluegills and shellcrackers with a few specks mixed in the bunch. They were fishin’ in Lake Beauclair, in the Harris Chain. Another speck fisherman told me that he had been catchin’ some specks in Lake Dora but he had plenty of throw-backs and not many to take home.
The wind has been brutal this week, and last weekend. Rick and I went bass fishin’ on Saturday and we didn’t even have a bite. Rick said he thought he had a bite, but wasn’t real sure it was a bass.
If you can get on the water and the wind isn’t blowin’ like crazy, try fishin’ Lake Woodruff for specks. Most of the specks are bein’ caught on jigs tipped with a minner.
The Butler Chain has been good for specks, too. Most of the specks are bein’ caught driftin’ open water with jigs tipped with a minner over the hydrilla beds. You can catch some bass on shiners and slow-sinkin’ Senko-type baits.
As I mentioned last week, the bass were movin’ to the shallow water to spawn but with the cold weather we are havin’ this week, the bite is gonna be a little slow. The wind is also a problem. If you do decide to go bass fishin’, try all your favorite places in the lake were you have caught some bass. It’s gonna be a tough bite and you don’t have to be on the water early. The best bite for bass has been in the afternoon. The water warms up a little and the bass seem to bite better durin’ the warm part of the day.
I wish I could be more excited about the fishin’ but it’s just a little slow right now. Hopefully, as we move closer to the full moon, the weather will settle down and the fishin’ will get better.
See ya next week.
Tip of the week: warmer weather.
Save a few and good luck!
