A trial period has been set this fall for Hector Raul Cartagena, the Apopka man accused of threatening to kill former Mayor Bryan Nelson.
Cartagena is scheduled for a three-week trial period beginning Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 12-D, according to an email from the State Attorney’s Office obtained by The Apopka Chief. The case is also scheduled for a pretrial conference Oct. 7.
Cartagena was arrested Feb. 11 after investigators alleged he made threats through social media to kill Nelson, who was mayor at the time.
The court found Cartagena competent to proceed in July after earlier competency proceedings. He faces multiple felony charges stemming from alleged threats against Nelson and others.
The State Attorney’s Office cautioned that trial dates may be postponed or continued.
