Hello Folks,

It’s official that cold weather has arrived in Central Florida this week. The fishin’ was really good in most of the lakes in our area until the cold front came to town.

The outside temperatures took a drastic drop and it will take a few days for the fish to adjust to the cooler weather. After that, the fishin’ should pick back up by the end of the week.

The fishin’ last week was really good in most of the lakes in our area. The specks were bitin’ really good and so were the bass. Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that the specks were bitin’ in Lake Monroe and Lake Jesup. Most folks are driftin’ open water with minners. The specks were bitin’ best in Lake Jesup last week. This cold weather will drop the water temperatures and that will get the specks bitin’. Kyle also reports that a few folks are catchin’ some specks in John’s Lake and Lake Underhill. You need to drift open water with minners. Kyle also reports that the bass are bitin’ on shiners in Lake Maitland. You need to free-line shiners over the submerged hydrilla and eel-grass beds throughout the chain.

The bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain has been off and on the past couple of weeks. I went a couple of weeks ago and it was great. I had the honor of takin’ the band director of Apopka High School, Mr. Jeremy Langford, last week and it was kinda slow. We did catch a few bass, but the wind laid down and that made the fishin’ really slow. Even though the fishin’ was slow, we still had a good time on the water. Hopefully, next time, the fishin’ will be better.

Over the Thanksgivin’ weekend, the bass fishin’ was really good on West Lake Toho. Mark at Big Toho Bait and Tackle reports that the bass were on fire over the Thanksgivin’ weekend, feedin’ on shiners. Most of the guides were goin’ through seven dozen shiners per trip.

Mark reports that lots of bass were caught and they had one bass that weighed in at 9.8 lbs. brought in by an angler on Sunday. The bass was released back in the water to be caught again.

Central Florida Bass Hunters held its monthly tournament on Lake Kissimmee last week. The team of Christian Diamante and Ron Shakespear won the tournament with five bass that weighed a total of 24.54 lbs. The biggest bass of the day was weighed in by the team of Ronnie Jackson and Mike Jones. Their bass weighed 7.37 lbs. There were 40 boats in the tournament and the fishin’ was good as well.

Well, that’s it for this week. Hopefully, the fish will get adjusted to the cooler weather this week and by the weekend the fishin’ will be fantastic.

See ya next week.

Tip of the week: cooler weather.

Save a few and good luck!
