St. Johns District to start Lake Apopka North Shore maintenance on March 20

The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) will be conducting maintenance at the Lake Apopka North Shore property beginning Monday, March 20.

During this time, the McDonald Canal Boat Ramp, the Shad Boat Ramp and the North Shore Trailhead will be inaccessible.

While the work is expected to be completed by Friday, March 24, any construction delays may prohibit SJRWMD from opening the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, the one-way 11-mile drive that starts at Lust Road in Apopka and ends on Jones Road in Orange County.

The wildlife drive is where visitors could tour the SJRWMD’s restoration work on the former farmlands that populate the Lake Apopka North Shore, as well as the plants and flowers that can be found there.
