Hello Folks,
I got the house open and I’m feelin’ the spring breezes blow through the house. It’s so refreshin’ to enjoy this great weather durin’ this time of the year. Before you know it, we will be into July and August and it will so hot you can fry an egg on the sidewalk. So, take some time out of your busy schedule, get on the water, and go fishin’.
Rick and I had a chance to go fishin’ last week out at John’s Lake. We were on the water early and it was a beautiful day and the fish were bitin’. We caught eight bass up to 3.5 pounds. Rick caught most of his bass on plastic worms and slow-sinkin’ Senko-type baits. I caught my bass on a Bitter’s Vibe plastic worm.
The bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain has been goin’ strong for the past two weeks. Folks are catchin’ plenty of one and two pounders and a few big ’uns most days. Most of the bass are bein’ caught on a variety of baits. Plastic worms, Senkos, lipless crank-baits, and chatter-baits.
Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports folks are still catchin’ plenty of bluegills and shellcrackers in Lake Monroe, Lake Jesup, and the St. Johns River. The hot spot has been the Kissimmee Chain for bluegills and shellcrackers. You can catch plenty of bluegills and shellcrackers throughout the chain. Most folks are catchin’ their panfish on wigglers, and red wigglers.
Kyle also reports that the bass are really bitin’ good on the St. Johns River. The menhaden are active in the river and folks are catchin’ some nice bass, up and down the river. Kyle reports that the bass fishin’ has been good from Astor all the way south to Lake Harney. Some bass are still on the beds in the river, but most of the bass are feedin’ on the menhaden in the river. You will do best with chatter-baits, lipless crank-baits, and plastic worms.
He also reports that you will find some stripers feedin’ on the menhaden. Folks are catchin’ a few stripers in the river while they are bass fishin’. So be ready in case you hook a striper. They are fun to catch and you will have a blast catchin’ ’em. They can strip some line off your reel in a second, so make sure you are ready in case you get one on your lure.
Also, I wanted to let you know that neither Rick nor I caught the pink tagged bass that’s in John’s Lake last week. If you remember from my column from last week, there are 10 bass that have been tagged in 10 Florida lakes in Florida. Those bass have a pink tag on them. If you catch one of those bass, it could be worth $5,000.
These bass aren’t two or three pounders, these bass with the pink tags weigh more than eight pounds each. So, make sure you register on TheTrophyCatch.com website and follow the rules so you don’t miss out on an opportunity to win some money.
Well, that’s it for this week. Good luck to you on the water. See ya next week.
Tip of the week: great weather.
Save a few and good luck!
