Hello Folks,
If you have been waitin’ for the weather to warm up, it’s warmin’ up this weekend. The water is still cold, but you should be able to catch some specks.
Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle reports that the folks comin’ into the shop are catchin’ plenty of specks in just about all the lakes and chains in our area. You can also catch plenty of specks in Lake Monroe, Lake Jesup, the Harris Chain, John’s Lake, and even in the Clermont Chain. If you have a favorite lake to fish and you want to catch some specks, get you some minners and go fishin’.
Some folks are catchin’ specks on jigs tipped with a minner and if that’s somethin’ you like, give it a try as well. We have a new moon this weekend so with this warmin’ trend and the specks bitin’, this might be a good weekend to go fishin’ and catch some specks.
The bass fishin’ is hit or miss. Some folks are really doin’ good and some folks are still lookin’ for ’em.
Last weekend, the American Bass Anglers held its tournament on the Harris Chain. They launched out of Hickory Point on Big Lake Harris. Congrats to Eric Conant of Lakeland, who won the tournament. Eric weighed in five bass that hit the scales at a total of 21.25 lbs. Eric also caught the biggest bass of the tournament that weighed in at 8.52 lbs. There were 106 boats fishin’ the tournament. So, the bass fishin’ on the Harris Chain is doin’ pretty good if you want to try to catch some bass in the chain.
The bass fishin’ on John’s Lake has been good as of late. Folks are catchin’ some specks and bass on the lake. The parkin’ is limited so make sure you get there early so you will have a place to park your vehicle and trailer.
Kyle also reports that folks are catchin’ some bass in the Maitland Chain on shiners and artificials. The only ramp open on the chain is located at Dinky Dock in Winter Park. The ramp at R.D. Keene Park on the Butler Chain is still closed. I talked to the folks at Orange County Parks and Recreation and the water is still high on the chain. The water level is at 99.36 right now and it needs to get to 98.26 for the ramp to open back up. The water needs to go down about 11 or so inches to get the ramp back open. So that’s the latest information that I have on the Butler Chain.
Well, that’s it for this week. I hope you get a chance to do some fishin’ this weekend and I’ll see ya next week.
Tip of the week: specks are bitin’.
Save a few and good luck!
