The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Wekiwa Springs State Park, located at 1800 Wekiwa Circle, Apopka, will participate in National Public Lands Day scheduled for Saturday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to noon that includes the groundbreaking for the new Serenity Garden.

The project is sponsored by the Wekiva Wilderness Trust, a non-profit, volunteer citizen support organization tasked with supporting the three Florida state parks that together are the Wekiva River Basin State Parks.

The Wekiva Wilderness Trust and the Florida Park Service will break ground for the new Serenity Garden. Participants will meet in the Interpretive Pavilion at the main use area for the start of this activity.

Those who partake in this event will receive free admission for the day.

Participants will have the opportunity to help with the ground breaking of the new Serenity Garden by removing palm fronds in the area of the garden. Participants may bring loppers if they have them to help with the removal process.

Volunteers must bring/wear closed toed shoes, sunscreen, hats. Bug repellent is highly recommended. Volunteers should also bring a snack and plenty of water.
