A great egret with breeding plumage sits by itself on a clump of vegetation along the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive on the North Shore of Lake Apopka. The free, 11-mile, one-way drive is open each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, along with federal holidays. The gate at 2850 Lust Rd., Apopka, opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. The exit gate on Jones Avenue in Zellwood closes at 5 p.m.
