Remembering fallen heroes important on holiday

2093

Hello Folks,

I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend and you had a chance to remember those who have served our country. We all appreciate the men and women in uniform for their service to the USA. We need to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We salute you all, and thank you for your service.

Hopefully, with the three-day weekend, you had a chance to get on the water and do some fishin’. Folks are havin’ a great time catchin’ plenty of panfish in most of the bodies of water in Central Florida. Folks are catchin’ plenty of bluegills, shellcrackers and a few warmouth perch in Lake Harney, Lake Jesup, and the St. Johns River. You can fish the banks of the St. Johns and the pads along the river bank as well. Folks are driftin’ the main lakes with crickets and red worms lookin’ for beds of panfish.

Lake Woodruff on the north end of the river has been good for bass and panfish. Folks are catchin’ bass on shiners and top-water baits like plastic toads and plastic frogs. You can also catch some bass on swim-baits fished on top of the water as well. You will find the bass feedin’ on the bait pods up and down the SJR. Most of the bass are bein’ caught on noisy top-water baits, buzz-baits, and lipless crankbaits. Once they quit feedin’ on the bait pods, try fishin’ plastic worms on a Carolina-rigged set-up near or around the shell-beds. You should be able to keep catchin’ ‘em a while longer.

John’s Lake has been good for panfish and bass. Folks are gettin’ on the water early and catchin’ some nice bass on shiners, top-water baits, and plastic worms. You will also find the bass bustin’ on plastic toads and frogs. You can try a swimmin’ worm across the top of the grass and pads. You can also try a swim-bait, or a buzz-bait at first light. Most of the bluegills and shellcrackers that are bein’ caught in John’s Lake are bitin’ on crickets and red worms. Some folks are usin’ grass-shrimp, too.

The Butler Chain is still doin’ good for bass and panfish. Folks are fishin’ the pads and the patches of Kissimmee grass for the bluegills. You need fish with crickets or red-worms. The bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain is still doin’ good.

Rick and I had a chance to go fishin’ on Saturday in the Butler Chain. I checked the Farmers Almanac and the lunar tables to see if it was goin’ to be a good day to go fishin’. Well, this past Saturday, got one star out of five stars. But as my granddaddy used to say, “A bad day fishin’ is better than a good day at work.” So we went hopin’ to have a decent day on the water.

We were able to catch 41 bass on plastic worms, slow-sinkin’ Senko-type baits by the day’s end. We stopped fishin’ at 3 p.m. due to all the water skiers and pleasure craft boaters on the water. We were bobbin’ up and down like a bobber on a bluegill bed. Yes, Rick did catch the most bass and also the biggest bass which weighed around 4 lbs.

The point is this: The bass fishin’ is still goin’ strong on the Butler Chain and if you want to catch some bass, you need to try this chain real soon. The best color to use has been watermelon seed with red glitter.

Well, y’all have a great week and I’ll see ya next week.

Tip of the week: the Butler Chain for bass.

Save a few and good luck!
