The Orange County School Board recognized First Responder Appreciation Week at their Tuesday, January 10, meeting at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center in Orlando.

In honor of first responders, Governor Rick Scott has proclaimed January 9-13 as Florida First Responder Appreciation Week. Orange County Public Schools educators and students were asked to show gratitude for the brave men and women who serve the state’s residents as first responders.

“First responders put themselves at risk every day and sacrifice their own lives to protect ours,” stated an OCPS press release. “They show remarkable resilience, often confronting dangerous situations, and their sense of civic duty and public service sets a great example for our students. It is easy to understand why so many of us admire first responders from a young age.”

Celebrate Literacy Week
Through a proclamation, Orange County Public Schools declared January 23-27, 2017, as Celebrate Literacy Week.

“Orange County Public Schools is committed to ensuring literacy for all of our students,” the OCPS press release stated. “In conjunction with the statewide ‘Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!’ Orange County Public Schools will promote literacy throughout the district and encourage the enjoyment of reading by children and adults of all ages.”
