The Orange County Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council will host the annual Gold Star Mothers and Families Day Ceremony, which will recognize Gold Star families who have lost a loved one during any war or hostilities in which the U.S. Armed Forces were engaged.

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings will attend along with keynote speaker Jeannette Nazario, president of the American Gold Star Mothers, Incorporated. Nazario previously served as the chaplain for the Tampa Bay chapter and is passionate about ending the suicide crisis among active-duty military personnel and veterans.

The ceremony will take place Saturday, September 30, at the Renaissance Senior Center, 3800 S. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando. The program starts at noon, and lunch is at 1 p.m.

The last Sunday in September is designated as Gold Star Mother’s Day. President Franklin D. Roosevelt officially established the day in 1936 as a public expression of love, sorrow, and reverence from the people of the United States to Gold Star mothers and their families.
