The following is the latest OCPS update about Hurricane Matthew and local schools and afterschool activities. This message went out to all parents tonight. OCPS will have another update on Wednesday, October 5.

Good afternoon Orange County Public Schools families. The district is closely monitoring Hurricane Matthew’s impact on our county in consultation with the National Weather Service and local emergency management offices. School and afterschool activities will go on as scheduled Wednesday, October 5. We will make a decision about school operations for Thursday by midday Wednesday. This will be communicated at your child’s school, by phone through a district ConnectORANGE message, on our website, www.ocps.net, and our Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Earlier today, The Apopka Chief published a post about OCPS keeping its eye on Hurricane Matthew through collaboration with the National Weather Service. The post explains how the weather could impact school operations. The St. Johns River Water Management District also has information on Hurricane Matthew preparation.
