Northwest Orange Republican Women, Federated (NORWF) has opened its Patriotic Essay Awards Contest to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.

Female students aged 13 to 15 may submit essays under the topic “What Makes Me Proud to be an American,” with a NORWF news release encouraging participants to focus “on community, freedom service, and the people who make a difference every day.” Students must reside in one of three ZIP codes — 32703, 32704 and 32712 — and be enrolled in public school, private school or home education.

The first-place winner is set to receive $300, with second place receiving $200. Both will also earn a certificate of excellence. Application forms contain all critical criteria needed for essay entry and can be accessed at norwf.org.
