Avian Reconditioning Center (ARC) representatives will demonstrate in a program how the Apopka nonprofit rehabilitates sick and injured birds of prey and introduce four less common raptors.
Hosted by the Orange Audubon Society, the program will take place at 7 p.m. on April 17 at Harry P. Leu Gardens, 1920 North Forest Ave., Orlando, in the Camellia Room. The event is free, and no reservations required. The program is suitable for children and all ages.
Situated on 10 acres of land on West Lester Road in Apopka, the ARC is a rehabilitation site for injured or sick birds of prey, also known as raptors, as well as an educational facility for visitors. Using falconry techniques, staff and volunteers assess a raptorās odds of wildlife survival post-recovery and to train young birds to hunt.
Human and natural risks such as encounters with electric lines and poisoning endanger raptors, according to a press release.
