Due to significant flooding caused by Hurricane Milton, the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive will remain closed until further notice, St. Johns River Water Management District announced today, Friday, October 11.

The St. Johns River Water Management District has reopened its offices today, with staff actively conducting safety assessments of District-managed lands. Some properties are expected to reopen as early as this afternoon, depending on the results of those evaluations.

“Our teams are working hard to assess the damage from Hurricane Milton,” said SJRWMD Executive Director Mike Register in a statement. “Public safety is our top priority.”

The District anticipates reopening its navigational locks on Saturday, October 12, following final safety inspections.

For the latest information on reopened properties, visit SJRWMD.com/lands/recreation. This page will be updated regularly as assessments are completed and more properties become available.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to check the status of individual properties before traveling, as conditions may vary across the District.

Public safety remains the primary focus as crews continue to restore access to District lands.
