The city of Apopka will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 6 on Friday, January 12, at 3 p.m. on the northeast corner of Ocoee-Apopka Road and Harmon Road in Apopka.

Access to the site will be made available as well as an onsite designated parking area. There will be signage directing everyone the day of the event.

On Wednesday, January 3, the Apopka City Council approved to award Miller Construction Management a construction manager at risk (CMAR) contract for Fire Station 6 with the guaranteed maximum price of $3,677,800 and an added 10 percent contingency for a total of $4,310,580.

At the meeting, Fire Chief Sean Wylam said construction would finish in under a year once groundbreaking takes place. He said the groundbreaking would take place within two weeks of January 3.

On August 29, 2023, the city of Apopka and its partners cut the ribbon on the $4.1 million Harmon Road extension, constructed to give vehicles better access and where the permanent Fire Station 6 would be located.

The city of Apopka completed the road extension with help from Central Florida Expressway and AdventHealth Apopka.

The proposed permanent Fire Station 6 will go up on the northeast corner of Harmon Road and Ocoee-Apopka Road, within vicinity of AdventHealth Apopka at the S.R. 414/S.R. 429 interchange.

In December 2017, a temporary Fire Station 6 opened to protect the southwest side of Apopka that includes AdventHealth Apopka and the Northwest Distribution Center; the communities of Emerson Park, Breckenridge, Apopka Woods, Magnolia Park Estates and Marden Ridge Apartments; and toll roads 429, 414 and 451, according to the city of Apopka website apopka.net.

The December 2017 opening of the temporary Fire Station 6 coincided with the opening of the new AdventHealth campus, which had relocated from its Park Avenue, Apopka, facility.
