From performing in Apopka school productions to landing a series regular role on a new network TV show, Spencer Allport, 11, has watched his star rise highly in about the past three years.

Just one month after moving out to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, the Apopka native won the role of Cash on the new NBC sitcom “Perfect Harmony.”

“It’s extremely fun, and I love it,” Allport said in a telephone interview last week.

“Perfect Harmony” stars Emmy-winner Bradley Whitford as Arthur Cochran, a down-on-his-luck Princeton music professor who visits a small town to bury his wife, only to end up becoming the director of a church choir in need of a lift in the talent department.

Allport plays Cash, the son of the single mother and choir director Ginny, portrayed by Anna Camp.

“My character recently figures out he has dyslexia. Throughout the show, so far my storyline is that Bradley Whitford, who plays Arthur, tries to help me overcome it and get better,” Allport said.

Describing himself as a “dramatic kid,” Allport knew he wanted to act at around 7 years old.

As a student at Apopka Elementary School, he appeared in school productions like “The Little Mermaid” as Prince Eric and “Seussical the Musical” as Horton the Elephant.

“Perfect Harmony” premieres on Thursday, September 26, at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.
