The Foliage Sertoma Club of Apopka is accepting sponsorships and applications for its 50th annual Christmas parade, “A Star Spangled Christmas,” scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 12 along Park Avenue.
“The Foliage Club of Apopka is dedicated to producing this 50 legacy event for the thousands who enjoy it every year, never missing a year, even during COVID!” said Foliage Sertoma President Eric Mock in a Sept. 15 news release. “We look forward to many more parades to come for generation number six.”
Sertoma anticipates 2,000 individuals will participate in the parade, including those from school groups, dance clubs, bands, the GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club, churches and more, “all contributing once again to creating lifelong memories for the 10,000 cheering families along the route,” according to the release.
The parade committee, led by Patrick McGuffin and Lorena Potter, includes other Sertoma representatives, JROTC participants from Apopka and Wekiva high schools, members of the Apopka Police Department, and city staff, but every Sertoma member contributes. The committee is currently working through the permitting process for the parade, inviting judges, and securing high school bands, among other responsibilities.
Early entries and sponsorships receive premium locations in the parade based on the size of the unit. Those wishing to participate in the parade may submit an entry form by Nov. 20 or “until all 100 positions are filled,” according to the entry form.
