Dr. Stephen Nelson, DMD, MSD of Baptiste Orthodontics explains Bruxism

1854

Do you suffer from constant headaches?  Hissing, buzzing or ringing in the ears? Teeth clenching and grinding at night? Neck pain, pain behind the eyes?  Do you notice you have been grinding your teeth at night? These are all symptoms of Bruxism.  Bruxism is caused by teeth grinding due to an abnormal bite or missing or crooked teeth.  In order to determine if your discomfort is due to teeth grinding you need to be evaluated by a trained doctor who specializes in teeth and jaw misalignment such as an Orthodontist.  Over 90% of patients who suffer from Bruxism report multiple secondary symptoms and consequences. Over 60% experience sleep disruptions and headaches. Over 40% of people who complain of neck pain and tooth sensitivity can attribute it to teeth grinding due to Bruxism. If the doctor suspects that your discomfort and pain is due to the abnormal bite, missing or crooked teeth he or she will recommend a treatment that will help correct the misalignment and also provide a dental grind guard that protects the teeth from nighttime teeth grinding and jaw clenching (Bruxism).

Dr. Stephen Nelson is an expert in the area of Bruxism. He is very attuned to the pain and potential problems that teeth and jaw misalignment can cause on his patients.  He will make sure to ask each of his patients if they are experiencing any of the symptoms of Bruxism and will do a thorough evaluation to determine if this is the case.
