Colder weather, specks are biting

Hello Folks,

Well it looks like November is gettin’ over and December will be here by the end of the week.

We have only 24 more days until Christmas Day. All I know is that Christmas really comes early now or it gets here faster than it did when I was younger. I love this time of the year, bein’ with family and friends and eatin’ plenty of good food.

The weather has turned a little cooler and you know what that means, it’s speckled perch time again. Folks are gettin’ on the water and catchin’ some nice stringers of specks. My friend John Kremer and family went speck fishin’ up in the St. John’s River over the weekend, and they caught some big specks along with lots of keeper-size specks. They were joined by Terry Scroggins and friends for a great trip on the St. Johns River.

Kyle at Bitter’s B&T reports that folks in his area are catchin’ some specks in Lake Monroe and Lake Jesup. We had a full moon this past Monday, and the specks started bitin’ like crazy. So if the wind will lay down a little, the specks should be bitin’ all week.

Kyle reports that folks are catchin’ most of their specks on minners, and a few specks bein’ caught on jigs tipped with a minner. Always use bright colored jig sfor best results.

The bass fishin’ has been pretty good in most of the chains in our area. The Harris Chain has been hit or miss, but a few folks are catchin’ plenty of keeper-bass and a couple of big’ ‘uns, too.

The Butler Chain has been good for bass fishin’. Folks are catchin’ plenty of keepers and a few little ones in the mix. The little ones are feedin’ on bait-fish in the chain. You can catch ’em on lipless crank-baits, quarter oz. Rat-L-Traps,  flukes, and Senko-baits. Some folks are catchin’em on small spinners like Mepps in-line spinners, and Shysters in-line  spinners. These lures will catch those little schoolers, and you will have a blast catchin’ ‘em.

The bass fishin’ on the Kissimmee Chain has been fairly decent as of late. Some nice big bass are bein’ caught on shiners. You can catch some bass on chatter-baits, and topwater baits early in the mornin’. When it warms up a little. try fishin’ the edge of the hydrilla patches or the Kissimmee grass. Plastic worms and Senko-type baits have been workin’ the best. I also heard they are catchin’ some specks in Lake Kissimmee, mainly on minners.

Well, folks, we are com-
in’ in to our best times to catch some fish. If you like to fish for specks or bass, between now and spring is the best time to go fishin’. Durin’ the next six months will be the best time to catch your personal-best big bass.

So, we have a lot to look forward to in the way of fishin’.

I hope you get a chance to do some fishin’ and take the kids with you when you go fishin’. They will have a blast, and it will allow them to enjoy the great outdoors we have here in Florida. I’ll see ya next week.

Tip of the week: Go Fishin’

Save a few and good luck!
