Bassmaster Elites Tournament started on April 11th, ends the 14th

202

Hello Folks,

I hope everyone is enjoyin’ this great weather we are havin’. It’s nice and cool in the mornin’ and at sunset. This should be the month that the bluegills start goin’ on the beds. We have a full moon on the 23rd of this month, so the bluegills should start bitin’.

Kyle at Bitters Bait & Tackle reports that a few folks are gettin’ out there and tryin’ to find a few, but it’s been kinda slow. One angler was in the store and he reports that the shellcrackers are bitin’ on East Lake Toho. I can’t confirm that, but hey, you might want to give it a shot if nothin’ else is workin’. Who knows, it just might work..

In case you haven’t heard, the BASSMASTER Elites are in town for a tournament. The tournament will be held at the Harris Chain, April 11th until April 14th. The take-offs and weigh-ins will be held at Venetian Gardens, Ski Beach, in Leesburg. The take-offs will start at 7 a.m., and the weigh-ins will start at 3 p.m. each day. So, if you want to see, or perhaps meet, your favorite pros, this week would be a good time to go. Good luck to all the pros, and I hope the fish are bitin’.

The bass fishin’ on the Maitland Chain is doin’ pretty good. Kyle reports that the bass are bitin’ a variety of baits, includin’ slow sinkin’ Senko-type baits, chatter-baits, and plastic worms. There are a few bass on the beds in the chain, so make sure you check that out.

The bass fishin’ is still doin’ good on the Butler Chain. The bass are still
bitin’ on chatter-baits, Senko-type baits, and a few on topwater baits early in the mornin’. A black and silver Rapala topwater, or a Bagley’s BangOLure, in black and silver, works good as well. So, if you get a chance to do some fishin’ and you want to catch lots of bass, you need to give the Butler Chain a try. If you can try and fish the Butler Chain durin’ the week. The weather is startin’ to warm up and the water skiers, and wake boarders are in full force durin’ the weekends. I know a lot of folks can only fish durin’ the weekend, but trust me, if you try and fish the Butler Chain over the weekend, you will bob up and down all day long like a bobber on your line.

The Kissimmee Chain has been good for bass fishin’. Folks are catchin’ lots of bass fishin’ around the submerged hydrilla and eel-grass throughout the chain. If you get on the water early, you take advantage of the top-water bites at first light. Once the sun gets up, you will need to pick up your flippin’ stick or your worm rod and start fishin’ the heavy cover. You can also catch a few bass on a speed worm fished over the heavy cover. Well that’s it for this week. I hope to see you soon on the water.

Tip of the week: Elites at the Harris Chain.

Save a few and good luck!
