Key Points
- The Apopka Planning Commission will elect a vice chair following Chair William Gusler's resignation in June, with Robert Ryan currently serving as chair.
- The commission plans a Land Development Code workshop on Sept. 8 to discuss data centers, open spaces, and commercial development.
- Three public hearings are scheduled including requests for land-use amendments to rezone properties to Mixed-Use from rural and suburban designations.
The Apopka Planning Commission is scheduled to fill a vacancy in its leadership and discuss potential changes to the city’s Land Development Code this week.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Apopka City Hall.
The election of a vice chair is the first business item on the agenda following public comment. Robert Ryan currently serves as chair of the Planning Commission.
The commission’s leadership changed earlier this summer after longtime Chair William Gusler resigned from the board in June. Ryan was serving as chair by the commission’s July 14 meeting.
Commission members are also scheduled to discuss a Land Development Code workshop planned for Sept. 8 following the commission’s regular meeting. Topics identified for the workshop include data center definitions, open spaces and commercial development.
The commission agreed last month to hold the workshop after Ryan asked members to consider changes they believe should be made to the Land Development Code. The July 14 motion calling for the workshop passed unanimously.
The commission also has three public hearings scheduled Tuesday.
Johnny Navarro is requesting a special exception to allow an accessory dwelling unit at 107 N. Central Ave. in the Mixed-Use Downtown zoning district. The property currently contains a single-family home, and the proposed one-story accessory dwelling unit would contain 488 square feet. City staff has no objection to the request, and the Development Review Committee recommended approval.
Unlike the two land-use amendments on Tuesday’s agenda, the Planning Commission has authority to approve, deny or approve with conditions.
Commissioners will also consider a future land-use amendment for approximately 3.48 acres east of Effie Drive and north of Kelly Park Road. The Kelly Park Road Commercial proposal would change the property’s future land-use designation from County Rural to Mixed-Use.
Another proposed amendment, Twin Fountains Commercial, covers approximately 5.09 acres east of Plymouth Sorrento Road and south of Kelly Park Road. The proposal would change the future land-use designation from Residential Very Low Suburban to Mixed-Use.
Both properties are owned by Effie Road Holdings LLC.
The meeting will be livestreamed on the city of Apopka’s YouTube channel.
