JAMES “RED” BASCOM FREE, 92, longtime Apopka resident, died in Eustis on Thursday, April 9. Mr. Free was born in Elba, Alabama. He served in the Korean War in the National Guard. Moving to Apopka in 1955, he owned and operated Free’s Ice and Fuel until he retired in 2001. He also supported youth sports in Apopka, sponsoring Little League teams, coached Senior League baseball and basketball squads for the Apopka Recreation Department.
