The Apopka Development Review Committee recommended approval Wednesday of the latest plans for Paulucci Acres, a major residential development proposed along Vick Road and West Ponkan Road. 

The fifth submission of the major development plan covers Pods 1A/B and 4 of Paulucci Acres. The agenda lists the proposal as a 502-lot single-family subdivision, although the latest engineering plans show 501 lots across approximately 171.55 acres.  

Planning staff said previous comments had been addressed and recommended approval. The project will next proceed to the Planning Commission and City Council because developments exceeding 25 lots require further approval. 

Public Works Director Dale Smith noted that discussions had taken place concerning road improvements associated with the project. 

“We had some discussions about the roadway widening on Vick and things like that,” Smith said. He asked that the applicant’s comments on the plans be included in the staff report “in case there are any questions about what is happening on Vick Road.”  

In another item, the DRC reviewed a request to rezone three residential lots at 543, 544 and 552 Sir Arthur Court to RSF-1A.  

The proposal cannot advance to public hearings until the applicant obtains an Orange County Public Schools capacity determination, Planning Manager Bobby Howell said. 

Applicant Michael Cooper said the property near Lake McCoy has been owned for nearly 20 years and could be developed with three houses. He said utilities and other infrastructure are largely already available. 

“If you’d have let us know that, we’d already had [it],” Cooper said of the school documentation. “So we’ll try to get it right away.”  

The committee also reviewed two upcoming special events. 

The Apopka Police Department’s Horsepower for Heroes car show is scheduled for Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Kit Land Nelson Park, with about 250 attendees expected. Plans call for food trucks and tents, along with a requested closure of East Orange Street from North Park Avenue to Goodrich Avenue from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. to provide additional space for show cars.  

The Apopka/Altamonte Springs VFW’s Elton John Tribute Dinner Show is scheduled for Aug. 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Apopka Community Center. The public fundraiser will feature dinner, music and dancing, with about 250 attendees expected and an admission fee. Alcohol will be served, and off-duty security has been hired.
