A great blue heron holds a rat prior to eating the rodent recently along the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. The 11-mile, one-way drive is free and open to the public each Friday through Sunday and federal holidays. The entrance gate at 2850 Lust Rd., Apopka, opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. with the exit gate on Jones Avenue in Zellwood closing at 5 p.m.
