Hello Folks,

I hope you are havin’ a great week, and you are lookin’ forward to goin’ fishin’ this weekend. We might have a little interruption due to the storm, but hopefully, we will just get some rain out of the system. It’s been kinda hot and it looks like we are goin’ to have the hottest month of July on record since they started keepin’ records. If you are on the water, make sure you have plenty of water and Gatorade on board so you can stay hydrated.

The panfishin’ has slowed way, way down durin’ the month of July. It’s been so hot folks just ain’t fishin for panfish. Kyle at Bitter’s Bait & Tackle reports that they are only sellin’ a few cups of red worms each day due to the heat.

They are sellin’ a few shiners for bass fishin’ early in the mornin’ or late in the day. If you can find a shade tree and float a shiner out near the grass or pads, you just might get a Florida Bass to bite. Folks are catchin’ a few bass in the Harris Chain. It’s been a little slow due to the heat. You will have to be very patient because the bite has been slow. You can try fishin’ the fish finders throughout the chain. They help find the pads that provide lots of shade for the bass. You can also try fishin’ off-shore grass beds in deeper water.

The X-treme Bass Series held their monthly tournament on the Harris chain last weekend and it took 23.82 pounds to win. The team of Colbie Cagle and Braden Robinson took home their 2nd win of the season. Congrats guys on a job well done, especially in this hot weather. The team of Mathew Elixson and Hunter Pruitt came in 2nd place, and they also had the big bass of the tournament which weighed in at 8.27 pounds.

The bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain is a little slow, but is still fishin’ better than most lakes in our area. You will do best by gettin’ on the water early and takin’ advantage of the early mornin’ bite. Also keep a eye out for schoolers comin’ up and feedin’ on bait-fish. Always have a rod with a lipless crank-bait tied on, so you will be ready for some great fun catchin’ those schoolers. You should be able to catch plenty of keeper-size bass especially if you have a little breeze blowin’ durin’ the day.

The Wednesday night Shootout held on John’s Lake was a little slow as well. If you fish their tournament, you are allowed to weigh in 3 bass. They hold their tournament from 5:15-9 p.m. The team of Leandro Saratt and Erico School won the 11-boat event with 3 bass that hit the scales at 8.30 pounds. Big bass was caught by the team of Chad Hayes and Ronnie Durden which weighed in at 5.90 pounds.

Well, that’s it for this week. I wish I had better news to report, but it’s that time of the year when it’s the dog days of summer. The dog days of summer start on July 3rd and run through August 11th. These 40 days are usually the hottest 40 days of the year. In Florida, those days may go into September as well.

I hope you have a great week, and I’ll see ya next week.

Tip of the week: Dog Days.

Save a few and good luck!
