Hello Folks,
What happened to our cooler weather? I hope you are enjoyin’ these warm days in December. One of my neighbors told me that this is why we live in Florida. I said that I know that, but we are in the 80s in December!
I hope everyone is gettin’ ready for Christmas. My family has been goin’ at it since Thanksgivin’.
Folks, I told you last week that the ramp at Lake Monroe is open at the marina. Well, the word got out and folks are gettin’ on the lake and catchin’ some specks. You need to get there early because the parkin’ lot fills up fast. Kyle at Bitter’s Bait and Tackle told me this week that he sold out of minners by 8:30 a.m. that day. So, the specks are bitin’ in Lake Monroe and, unfortunately, that is the only ramp open on the lake as of today. Hopefully, the other ramps will open soon. The water is recedin’ in the St. John’s River so, hopefully, some of the ramps will open this weekend.
The bass fishin’ is a little slow right now but someone always gets on ’em no matter how slow it is for everyone else. I went fishin’ over the weekend with my buddy Rich and we caught only three bass. We fished only until noon, but it was nice to get out of the house and do some fishin’. Kyle also got in some fishin’ on his days off this past week and he caught only a few bass on his trip as well. Kyle fished the Harris Chain and reported that he only caught small bass and he fished a lot of different areas just to catch those few bass.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife announced a new challenge to Florida anglers. They are havin’ a Battle of the Lakes fishin’ competition. The competition is between Orange Lake and Fellsmere Water Management area better known as the Headwaters. Any angler that is fishin’ either one of these lakes should submit their trophy-sized largemouth bass to Trophy Catch for a chance to win special prizes. The lake that tallies the highest weight of trophy bass in Season 11, which runs from now through Sept. 30, 2023, will win the Battle of the Lakes. You have to register to enter your bass in the competition. Your bass has to weigh 8 lbs. or more to enter.
You can go to Trophy Catch.com for more information. There you will find the rules and regulations for this season.
My buddy Ken who fishes the Maitland Chain reports that the water is still high throughout the chain. The fishin’ is a little slow and he hasn’t seen any bass on the beds yet. We have a full moon this week. I have always said the three days before the full moon and three days after the full moon should be the best times to go fishin’. Hopefully that’s the case this weekend. I’ll see y’all next week.
Tip of the week: full moon.
Save a few and good luck!
