Hello Folks,
I hope you are havin’ a great week, and if you were on the Harris Chain over the weekend, you didn’t get run over by the tournament boats on the water! They had the Big Bass Tournament this past weekend, and there were over 300 boats on the chain. The biggest bass caught durin’ the tournament was 10.58 pounds caught by Richard West. Richard caught his bass on Friday and it ended up bein’ the biggest bass of the tournament. You can go to Cabela’s Big Bass Tour website and see all the big bass caught durin’ the tournament.
Kyle at Bitter’s B&T reports that a few folks got out on the water and did some speck fishin’ over the weekend. You can catch some specks in Lake Monroe, Lake Jesup, and Lake Harney. Most of the specks are bein’ caught on minners and a few specks are bein’ caught on jigs tipped with a minner.
The MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League held their tournament over the past weekend on the Kissimmee Chain. Congrats to Max Moneuse, from Parrish, Florida on his first win of this tour. Max’s five bass hit the scales at 21 pounds 9 ounces. Way to go Max, and we hope you have more wins in your future.
Congrats to Tyler Sheppard, of Yulee, Florida for catchin’ the biggest bass of the tournament. Tyler’s big bass hit the scales at 9 pounds 14 ounces.
The next tournament in the Gator Division, will be held on the Harris Chain, March 2. You can register for this event by goin’ to MajorLeagueFishing.com or by callin’ 270-252-1000. This tournament is for boaters and non-boaters. So, if you want to try your hand at fishin’ a bass tournament, go register for the next event, and go catch some bass.
The bass fishin’ on the Butler Chain is still steady for good numbers of bass. I’m sure there are some bass on the chain that are spawnin’ or gettin’ ready to spawn. You just need to go fishin’ and spend some time on the water, but you’ll need to cover lots of water.
My buddy Rich fished the Big Bass Tournament over the weekend, but he didn’t get the results he was lookin’ for durin’ the tournament. He did tell me he caught some nice bass, but none of them were big enough to win some money. Rich caught his bass on chatter-baits, speed-worms, and flippin’ the thick Kissimmee grass. He decided on Sunday he was goin’ to put his head down and flip the grass all day. He fished the heaviest patches of grass he could find. Folks have been catchin’ some big bass flippin’, and you sometimes catch a good ’un. Well, Rich flipped into this one patch and got a bite. He set the hook, but he couldn’t move the fish. She shook her head and she was gone! I’m not sayin’ she was a big bass, because they have some big mud-fish in the chain. Rich said that whatever it was, she was big.
Well, that’s it for this week.
I hope you get a chance to get out there and go fishin’ this weekend. See you on the water.
Tip of the week: Flip the heavy grass
Save a few and good luck!
