What was originally a response to a 911 call about a medical episode ended up with man dead inside an Apopka apartment from an obvious self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

On Friday, June 21, at approximately 4 p.m. the Apopka Police Department’s communications center received a 911 call in reference to the medical episode that happened in an apartment at the Oasis at Wekiva Apartment Complex, 518 Lake Bridge Lane, Apopka.

Upon arrival, police officers began to provide aid to the patient until the Apopka Fire Department arrived, police say.

Once the patient was transported to the hospital, officers began to interview a male occupant of the apartment when he produced a handgun. Officers immediately retreated from the apartment. The Central Florida Metro SWAT responded and upon entry into the apartment, they found a man deceased inside the apartment from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

At this time, there is no danger to the public, and this is an isolated incident, police say.
