OCPS students can join a summer reading challenge

1975

To avoid the summer reading slide, Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) is encouraging students to participate in the #OCPSReads Summer Reading Challenge.

Through a book anyone can travel the world, and OCPS wants to know “Where in the World is OCPS Reading?” with the hashtag #OCPSReads.

The goal is that OCPS students will read 20 million minutes this summer.

Experts agree that children who do not read during the summer break can significantly slide backward during those months.

How the #OCPSReads Summer Reading Challenge works
The OCPS Facebook and Twitter pages will share the literacy message and encouraging families to have students read this summer while they hashtag and post pictures of their reading adventures using #OCPSReads.

Students over 13 years of age and parents of students under 13 years of age who post pictures of themselves or their child reading using the hashtag will be eligible to win prizes from the district.

Families can download the reading log for students to keep track of how many minutes they read each day. These minutes can also be recorded at the Scholastic’s Summer Reading Challenge site or brought to their teacher any time during the first month of school.
