No need to sign up. No forms. Just meals at no charge all summer long.
Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) is offering meals at no charge to every student and all children 18 years and younger, thanks to the Summer BreakSpot program. Starting Monday, June 3, and continuing throughout the summer, OCPS will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks at 230 locations across the county. The program ensures all children can eat healthy food during the summer when they cannot eat at school.
Every meal served will consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, a main dish and milk. These meals can be found at schools hosting summer programs, summer camps, and various churches. In addition, six libraries – Chickasaw, Fairview Shores, Hiawassee, North Orange, South Creek, and South Trail – will offer meals at no charge.
“Summer can be a difficult time for a lot of kids. Many do not have access to nutritional meals during the summer. This is where OCPS Food and Nutrition Services comes in to provide a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. We are proud to say every menu item is taste-tested by students for students,” said Mark Watson, senior director of OCPS Food and Nutrition Services.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, provides funding for the summer meals program annually.
Schools will not serve meals for the summer feeding program from July 1 to July 5, as well as on Fridays.
