Locals can learn all about Habitat for Humanity’s new South Apopka affordable housing subdivision plans at a free community breakfast event.
Apopka Townhall for Homes will take place on Friday, February 24, 8-9 a.m. at the John Bridges Community Center, 445 W. 13th St., Apopka.
There, Habitat will unveil construction details of the 56 affordable single-family housing subdivision New Horizons. The nonprofit will also introduce some of the families that are moving into their new homes on 13th Street.
The Orange County government, Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando, Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka, and Homes in Partnership have teamed up on New Horizons, formerly known as Hawthorne Village.
The difference between New Horizons and Hawthorne Village, a 70-unit project, is that whereas Hawthorne Village was a rental, New Horizons will provide homeownership opportunities.
Between late spring and early summer this year, local families would begin constructing the first group of affordable houses. Families have committed to New Horizons through Habitat’s homeownership program.
