Tomorrow, there will be a public meeting to explore the annexation of South Apopka and how it would affect the community.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 15, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Apopka Community Center, 519 S. Central Ave., Apopka.
The meeting was scheduled following recent mayoral and City Council candidate debates, where the topic of the South Apopka annexation was explored.
Also, the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce has been fielding annexation questions from its business members who are concerned with what that could mean for their tax base while struggling to recover from shuts downs or illnesses, according to the Chamber.
On July 19, 2021, the Chamber met with representatives from the Apopka community, city, state, school district, and a representative’s aid from U.S. congress, to discuss challenges of businesses and residents of south Apopka.
Based on discovery during that conversation, the Chamber began to offer hiring events throughout the city to help support local families and local businesses with employment and talent supply needs. Two events were hosted in 2021; the next event will be on February 22, noon-6 p.m., in the Apopka Community Center.
The Chamber is in discussion and planning to bolster the opportunity to host a “Second-Chance Opportunity” hiring event in partnership with Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. Multiple committees were also launched to build relationships between the community, local businesses, and the city.
A story recapping this meeting will be published in the Friday, February 18, issue of The Apopka Chief. Subscribe today!
